David Detwiler is in his 10th season as the head men's tennis coach at Washington and Lee. He has been invoved with the Generals for a total of 13 years as director of the Duchossois Tennis Center and an assistant men's and women's tennis coach.
In his nine seasons in charge of the men's tennis program, Detwiler has engineered some of the finest seasons in school history. He has directed the Generals to a 139-52 cumulative record, eight Old Dominion Athletic Conference titles and eight trips to the NCAA Division III Tournament. Additionally, his teams have consistently ranked in the Division III Top 20 polls, with the 2007-08 team finishing the season ranked 18th in the final poll.
Detwiler's 2007 team set a school record for victories in a season by going 20-3 overall, claiming the ODAC Tournament Championship and receiving a first-round bye in the NCAA Tournament. His 2008 team went 18-5 overall, won the conference title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
In his time as an assistant women's tennis coach with the Generals, Detwiler helped lead W&L to a pair of ODAC titles and NCAA Tournament berths.
Before arriving at W&L, Detwiler spent eight years as the Tennis Director at Shadow Oaks Racquet Club in Greenville, S.C. He is a 1988 graduate of Furman University, where he was a four-year letterwinner and team captain as a senior. Detwiler won two Southern Conference singles titles and three doubles titles, while helping the team to a pair of league championships. He also won the USTA National 25-and-under clay court doubles championship in 1993.
Well respected in the tennis coaching profession, Detwiler was presented with the 2003 USTA/ITA Community Service Award for the Mid-Atlantic Region for his work with the Lexington and W&L Communities through the Duchossois Tennis Center.
Detwiler and his wife, Alison, make their home in Lexington.
Peter Pristach is in his second year at Washington and Lee as assistant men's tennis coach and assistant director of the Duchossois Tennis Center.
His first season resulted in a 15-6 overall record and an undefeated conference regular season. He also helped coach nine Generals to all-conference honors, including the 2009 ODAC Rookie of the Year.
Pristach came to W&L following an impressive coaching and playing career. He had previously served as the owner and operator of the Riverside Tennis Club in Greenville, S.C., and has worked for numerous tennis clubs in his native Toronto, Ontario.
A 1984 graduate of Lander University in South Carolina, Pristach was a three-time NAIA All-American and won the NAIA National Singles Championship during his senior season. He began his playing career at Clemson University as a freshman, where he played for the legendary Chuck Kriese.
Pristach went on to play professionally on the ATP Tour from
1985-87 and he has extensive experience having played satellite and
challenger tournaments worldwide. He also currently ranks
among the Top 5 players nationally in his age group and is a
top-notch squash player.
