FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) released its 2018 College Division All-State Men's Tennis Team on Monday and Washington and Lee sophomore Harry Shepherd (Ridgewood, N.J. / St. George's School) was recognized as the Player of the Year.

Shepherd was also named to the VaSID First Team All-State squad for singles.  He is the first W&L player to be named the VaSID Player of the Year since Hayden White '13 garnered the award in 2013.

A transfer from Emory University, Shepherd also received ODAC Player of the Year laurels in his first season with the Generals.  He completed the year with a 14-4 singles record and a 13-6 doubles mark while playing the No. 1 spot for both singles and doubles.  The First Team All-ODAC honoree also received a bid to the NCAA Singles Championship, falling in the opening round to Mohanad Al Houni of Gustavus Adolphus by a score of 6-4, 6-0.

Washington and Lee finished the 2018 campaign with a 13-7 overall record.  The Generals won the ODAC title for the ninth year in a row and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to second-ranked Emory, 5-1.
