FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's tennis team finished competition in the second day of the USTA/ITA Southeast Region Championship held at the University of Mary Washington on Sunday.
Leading the way were the doubles teams of senior March Zheng (Leawood, Kan. / Pembroke Hill) and sophomore Thomas Harmon (Tampa, Fla. / Plant), and sophomore Mitchell Thomas (Houma, La. / Vandebilt Catholic) and first-year Noah Tapp (Lexington, Ky. / Henry Clay). Both teams advanced to the quarterfinals of the championship doubles bracket.
Zheng and Harmon went 3-1 overall to advance to quarterfinals, where they fell to the team of Tommy Cheng and Kailas Shekar of Carnegie Mellon by a score of 9-7.
Thomas and Tapp also posted a 3-1 mark for the weekend, falling to the team of Chaz Downing and Daniel Levine of Carnegie Mellon in the quarters by a score of 8-1.
In singles, Harmon, Tapp and Zheng all advanced to the quarterfinals of the championship singles consolation bracket, before foregoing competition to return to Lexington for classes on Monday.
With the completion of play in the USTA/ITA Regional, the W&L men's tennis team has now completed its fall season. The Generals will return to action for the spring campaign in February.
