KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Senior Hayden White (Baltimore, Md./Towson) and the doubles tandem of sophomore Taylor Shamshiri (Austin, Texas/ATA College Prep) and first-year Michael Holt (Henrico, Va. / Mills Godwin) were in action for the Washington and Lee men's tennis team at the NCAA Division III Singles & Doubles Championships on Thursday at Kalamazoo College.
In singles action, White won his opening round match over Joey Fritz of Amherst by a score of 6-1, 6-7, 6-3. He then fell to Patrick Lipscomb of the Redlands in the Round of 16 by a score of 7-6, 6-2.
With the loss, to Lipscomb, White completed his season with a 23-9 singles record. He finishes his career ranked third all-time in singles wins at W&L with an 81-33 record.
In doubles, Shamshiri and Holt won their opening match to advance to the quarterfinals on Friday. The duo posted a 7-6, 6-4 victory over the team of Alex Johnston and Andrew Lebovitz from Middlebury.
Shamshiri and Holt will now square off against the winner of a match between a team from Whitman and the No. 2 seeded tandem from Washington University in St. Louis. The match will be played on Friday at 4:30 pm.
