INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) released its selections for the 2012 Division III Singles and Doubles Championships to be held on May 24-26 at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
Washington and Lee senior Lauren Lukas (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) and first-year Sonja Meighan (McLean, Va./Flint Hill) were among the 32 individuals selected to participate in the women singles championship, while junior Hayden White (Baltimore, Md./Towson) was one of 32 men tabbed to compete for the singles title.
Meighan enters the NCAA Tournament with a 19-5 record while playing No. 1 singles for the Generals. She finished fifth in the singles competition at the ITA Small College Championships in the fall and is the second-ranked player in the Atlantic South Region. She was named the ODAC Rookie and Player of the Year earlier this spring.
Lukas has notched a 10-11 singles mark while playing primarily No. 2 singles for W&L. A 2011 All-American in doubles and a three-time First Team All-ODAC selection, she is ranked fourth in the Atlantic South Region in singles.
White qualified for the NCAA Men's Singles Championship for the third-straight season after garnering All-America honors in singles each of the past two years. The 2012 ODAC Player of the Year, White has logged a 15-6 record while playing No. 1 singles for the Generals. He is currently the sixth-ranked singles player in the Atlantic South Region.
Both the W&L men and women begin competition in the NCAA team tournament this weekend at Emory University. The men play Texas-Tyler in the first round on Friday at 1:00 pm, while the women received a first round bye and will take on either Ohio Northern or Transylvania in Saturday's second round at 11:00 am.
