LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's tennis team claimed four place winners in the W&L Invitational held on Saturday and Sunday at the W&L Outdoor Courts.
Senior Brian Roberts (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Eric Klawitter of Case Western Reserve in the championship match of the "C" singles flight for a runner-up finish. He completed the weekend with a 2-1 singles record. Senior Michael Freeman (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) also completed his weekend with a 2-1 record in the "C" single flight, defeating Artsiom Prostak of North Carolina Wesleyan, 6-1, 6-3 in the third-place match.
Junior Hayden White (Baltimore, Md./Towson) knocked off Will Drougas of Case Western Reserve in the third-place match of "A" singles, posting a 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 win to finish his weekend with a 2-1 record. First-year Taylor Shamshiri (Austin, Texas/ATA College Prep) also went 2-1 to finish third in the "B" singles flight. He notched a 6-2, 6-2 win over Clayton Sonn of North Carolina Wesleyan in the third-place match.
The doubles tandem of Roberts and first-year Christopher Hu (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) dropped their second round match at flight "B" doubles to finish 1-1 on the weekend. They were knocked off by Drougas and Klawitter of CWRU, 8-6.
Washington and Lee will return to action on Saturday as they take part in the Mary Washington Invitational.
