FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Washington and Lee first-year Hayden White (Baltimore, Md./Towson) claimed the championship singles title on Monday afternoon at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III South/Southeast Region Championships hosted by Mary Washington.
White posted a 6-0 record over the three-day event, outlasting a field of 64 singles players. On Monday, he defeated Haverford first-year Kevin Caulfield in the semifinals by a score of 6-1, 7-6 (4), before knocking off Johns Hopkins senior David Maldow in the championship match by a score of 6-2, 6-2.
By virtue of winning the regional championship, White will now advance to the ITA National Small College Championships held on Oct. 15-18 at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala.
