Murphy is in his second season as an assistant coach for the Generals' swimming program.
In 2014, the women's team claimed its 12th-straight ODAC Championship, bringing its program total to 24. Murphy helped mentor 17 Generals to all-conference honors, led by Stephanie Foster '16 who garnered First Team All-ODAC laurels and was named the ODAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Before coming to Washington and Lee, Murphy served as an assistant men's and women's swimming coach at Randolph-Macon since August of 2012. In this role, he assisted with numerous aspects of the Yellow Jackets' swimming program, helping lead R-MC's teams to nine school records, while the women finished second overall at the 2013 ODAC Championship meet.
Prior to his time at Randolph-Macon, Murphy was a coach for the swimming programs at Hanover High School, where he coached the Central Region Swimmer of the Year (2010-11) and was part of the Central Region Coaching Staff of the Year (2011-12). He has also been the head coach of the Pebble Creek Swim Team in Mechanicsville, Va., where he was twice awarded the Excellence in Coaching Award.
Murphy is a 2010 graduate of York College with a bachelor of arts degree in history, secondary education. He was a two-year captain of the Spartans' swimming team, helping lead them to four second-place finishes at the Capital Athletic Conference Championship and a 38-4 combined record over his four seasons.
Murphy is currently working towards a master of science degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in coaching from Georgia Southern University.
