W&L's Thetford Earns All-America Honors on First Day of NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Washington and Lee senior Tommy Thetford (Birmingham, Ala. / The Altamont) clocked in at 20.37 to tie for seventh in the finals of the 50-yard freestyle at the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships held at the IU Natatorium on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis on Wednesday evening.

Highlights From the Meet:

  • With Thetford's seventh-place finish, he earned First Team All-America honors for the sixth time in his career.
  • First-year Patrick Sullivan (Pawleys Island, S.C. / Waccamaw) placed 35th in the 50-yard free during prelims this morning.

W&L Finishes:

- Tommy Thetford (7th) – 50-yard Free (20.37)
- Patrick Sullivan (35th) – 50-yard Free (20.81)

Up Next:

The Generals return to the pool on Thursday for the second day of competition. Thetford and Sullivan will be joined by senior Corey Connelly (Belleair, Fla. / Palm Harbor University) and sophomore Evan Kramer (Taylors, S.C. / Eastside) on the 200 free relay, while Thetford and Sullivan will compete in the 200 free. Prelims are set to begin at 10:00 am.
