LANCASTER, Pa. – The Washington and Lee men's swim team earned 275 points on day one of the Franklin & Marshall Invitational to sit in second-place out of 10 teams. The Generals sit just behind first-place Delaware that earned 283 points.
The 200-yard freestyle relay squad that consisted of senior Jake Burns (Greensboro, N.C. / Greensboro Day), first-year Sam Logue (Fallston, Md. / Loyola Blakefield), and juniors Tommy Thetford (Birmingham, Ala. / The Altamont) and Corey Connelly (Belleair, Fla. / Palm Harbor University) touched the wall in 1:25.04 to take second.
Thetford also swam on the 400-yard medley relay team with junior Noah Schammel (Greenville, S.C. / St. Joseph's), and first-years Jared Nickodem (Jackson, Wis. / Cedarburg Senior) and Ethan Fischer (Columbus, Ohio / Upper Arlington) that took second in 3:29.52.
Individually, first-year Ben Brown (Baldwin, Md. / Loyola Blakefield) finished fourth in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:45.33, while sophomore Bancs Holmes (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham B. Broughton) took sixth after he touched the wall at 16:46.67.
The men return to action tomorrow for day two of the invitational. The meet is set to start at 9:00 am.
