Men's Swimming Finishes Second at F&M Invitational

LANCASTER, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee men's swimming team earned 378 on the day to total 813 for the weekend and a second place finish at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational.

F&M finished in first place, just 15 points ahead of the Generals (828), while Ramapo finished third (762.5) and Widener placed fourth (619.5).

David Ireland (Dayton, Ohio / Oakwood), Thomas Ferguson (Midlothian, Va. / Trinity Episcopal), and Trenten Babcock (Belmont, Mich. / Rockford) led the Generals on the day with each swimmer picking up a seond place finish in their respective events. Ireland placed second in the 100 breast (1:01.01), Ferguson placed second in the 200 fly (1:59.30) and Babcock placed second in the 200 IM (2:01.11).

Matthew Hesser (Midlothian, Va. / Governor's School) picked up a Top 3 finish for the Blue and White, placing third in the 200 back in a time of 1:59.34. Eric Shuman (Black Mountain, N.C. / Asheville Christian Academy) also picked up a third place finish, clocking in at 1:59.63 in the 200 fly.

Alex Fox (Winston Salem, N.C. / RJ Reynolds) also finished in the Top 5 in his event, placing fourth in the 500 free (4:54.81).

The team of John Womack (Glendale, Ariz. / Glendale Preparatory Academy), Andrew Botelho (Huntersville, N.C. / William Amos Hough), Harris Pritchard (Houston, Texas / Memorial), Matt Kiser (Dunwoody, Ga. / Dunwoody) ended the meet strong for the Generals by placing fourth in 400 free relay (3:15.30).

The Blue and White will be back in action when they travel to Bridgewater on January 11 for a 6:00 pm meet.
