W&L's Sykes Named Division III Swimmer of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Washington and Lee senior Rick Sykes (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) has been named the Councilman Hunsaker Division III Men's Swimmer of the Week for the week ending October 14, as announced by CollegeSwimming.com.

Sykes led the Generals to a 1-1 finish in a tri-meet on Saturday, defeating Centre, 216-63, and falling to DePauw, 171-109. He recorded two first-place performances on the day, including an NCAA B-cut time of 20.91 in the 50 free. Sykes also took the top spot in the 100 free, touching the wall in 47.10. Both times currently lead Division III this season.

Sykes also teamed up with senior Wayde Marsh (Milford, Del./Salesianum School), junior Matt Hesser (Midlothian, Va./Governor's School) and first-year Wesley Sigmon (Raleigh, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) in the 200 medley relay to finish in second-place in a time of 1:38.44.

W&L returns to the pool on Friday, when it hosts Mary Washington at 6:00 pm.
