W&L Men's Swimming Sits Seventh at BMC Championships

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Washington and Lee men's swimming team is currently tied for seventh place with 26 points after completing day one of the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships on Wednesday evening at the Mecklenburg Aquatics Center.

Wingate University recorded 102 points on opening day to be on top of the standings. Queens University of Charlotte is second with 79 points and Limestone College rounds out the Top 3 with 39 points. Fairmont State (36), Catawba (36), Johns Hopkins (32), W&L (26), Scad (26), West Virginia Wesleyan (25), Lenoir Rhyne (22), Randolph-Macon (12), Pfeiffer (10) and Transylvania (8) complete the team results list.

Three Generals competed in the 1000 free, led by first-year Alex Hampel (Middletown, Del./Salesianum) finishing 12th in a time of 9:56.43. First-year Alex Cram (Columbia, S.C./Irmo) touched right after in 13th, clocking in at 9:57.21, and sophomore Eric Shuman (Black Mountain, N.C./Asheville Christian Academy) was 14th in 10:00.58.

The 800 free relay consisting of first-year Chase Flint (Suwanee, Ga./Greater Atlanta Christian), junior Wayde Marsh (Milford, Del./Salesianum School), and seniors Brian Stirling (Skillman, N.J./Montgomery) and Ryan Hartman (Yorktown, Va./Grafton) ended the short day, coming in 10th with a time of 7:00.55.

W&L will return to the pool Thursday for day two action at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships, with preliminary rounds beginning at 10:00 am.
