W&L Men's Swimming Falls to JHU, 154-105
LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's swimming fell to Johns Hopkins, 154-105, in a dual meet at Cy Towmbly Pool on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Chris Washnock (Greer, S.C./Greenville) and junior Ricky Sykes (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) each picked up an individual event win on the day to lead the Generals (6-4).
Washnock captured the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:57.52 and Sykes was the victor in the 50 free in 21.29.
Other top finishers for W&L included the 200 medley relay team of junior Wayde Marsh (Milford, Del./Salesianum), sophomore David Ireland (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood), senior Jeff Stirling (Skillman, N.J./Montgomery) and Sykes, which finished in second place with a time of 1:36.54.
Senior Brian Stirling (Skillman, N.J./Montgomery) added a second-place finish in the 100 free (47.85) and was followed by Sykes in third with a time of 48.32.
Washnock took second place in the 200 back in 1:54.28, and Ireland added a second-place finish in the 200 breast with a mark of 2:13.51. Brian Stirling also grabbed a second-place finish in the 100 fly (51.79).
Finally, W&L added to its haul with a second-place finish in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:26.29. That team consisted of Sykes, senior Ryan Hartman (Yorktown, Va./Grafton), sophomore Robert Knuth (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate) and Brian Stirling.
The Generals return to action on Feb. 5 at the Virginia Tech Invitational beginning at 10:00 am.
