Numerous W&L Students Earn Scholar-Athlete Awards During Winter Term
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee
Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn has announced that 176 students
earned Scholar-Athlete awards during the recently completed winter
term. The students are all members of W&L athletic teams
and achieved a grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.500.
Additionally, 15 of the students honored achieved a 4.0
grade-point average, including first-year All-ODAC swimmer Megan
Bock (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel), sophomore Scholar All-America
wrestler Sam Campbell (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier), junior track
& field athlete Ashley Carr (Tallahassee, Fla./Maclay), senior
riding captain Emily Coyle (Seattle, Wash./Lakeside), junior
lacrosse player Justin Donati (Walkersville, Md./St. Paul's),
junior cross country and track & field athlete David Doobin
(Summit, N.J./Newark Academy), junior soccer player Taylor Garrett
(Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook), junior All-ODAC tennis player
Will Hall (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth), senior basketball
captain Kaitlyn Kamp (Bloomington, Minn./Lutheran), first-year
rider Keriann Laubach (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township), sophomore
All-ODAC rider and Riding Scholar-Athlete of the Year Tamara Morse
(Bristow, Va./Brentsville), first-year cross country and track
& field athlete Louisa Phillips (Charleston, S.C./Ashley Hall),
first-year cross country and track & field ODAC Rookie of the
Year Lauren Schultz (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton), senior All-ODAC
cross country and track & field athlete Dorothy Todd
(Watkinsville, Ga./Athens Academy) and senior rider Brooks Vardell
(Larchmont, N.Y./Rye Country Day).
Among the other notable students to receive Scholar-Athlete awards
were senior All-America swimmer Brandon Barnds (Mission Hills,
Kan./Shawnee), sophomore All-America basketball player Becca Bolton
(Pittsboro, N.C./Chatham Central), senior All-America tennis player
Lauren Caire (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall), senior All-America
lacrosse player Will Keigler (Timonium, Md./Gilman), junior
Academic All-America football player Greg Kurkis (Roswell,
Ga./Westminster), sophomore All-America soccer player Kat Lawson
(White Post, Va./Clarke County), senior All-America volleyball
player Rachael Phillips (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep), senior ODAC
Swimmer of the Year Sarah Simpson (Charlotte, N.C./South
Mecklenburg), senior All-America swimmer Nick Talluri (Mount Airy,
N.C./Mount Airy), sophomore All-America swimmer Chris Washnock
(Greer, S.C./Greenville) and first-year All-America tennis player
Hayden White (Baltimore, Md./Towson).

All of W&L's 23 varsity athletic programs achieved a team GPA of at least 3.000, led by the riding team with a 3.589. The highest men's team GPA was the swimming team with a 3.435 and no team recorded a GPA lower than 3.006.
