W&L Men's Swimming Competes at Day One of BMC Meet
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Washington and Lee men’s
swimming team opened the first day of the 2010 Bluegrass Mountain
Conference Championships on Wednesday evening at the Mecklenburg
Aquatic Club in Charlotte, N.C.
After the first day of competition, the Generals find themselves in
sixth place out of 12 teams with 35 points. Wingate University
leads the standings with 88 points, followed by Johns Hopkins (63
pts.), Rollins College (45 pts.), Limestone College (44 pts.) and
The University of Tampa (41 pts.).
W&L had two swimmers in the top 15 of the 1000 free, with
senior Dan Austin (Terrace Park, Ohio/Mariemont) in 11th with a
time of 9:58.83 and sophomore Ben Absher (Knoxville,
Tenn./Christian Academy) in 14th, finishing with a time of
10:08.29.
The Generals also swam one relay event, with the squad of junior
Brandon Wilder (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk), first-year Tyler
Gehrs (Alexandria, Va./St. Andrew’s), senior Jonathan Giesen
(Hoover, Ala./Paul Laurence Dunbar) and sophomore Brian Stirling
(Skillman, N.J./Montgomery) touching in sixth with a time of
6:58.04.
W&L returns to action on Thursday for the second day of the
conference meet.
