LYNCHBURG, Va. – Sophomore defender Oliver Dolberg (Clovis, Calif. / Buchannan) tallied two goals to lead the third-seeded Washington and Lee men's soccer team past seventh-seeded Randolph on Saturday in the ODAC Tournament semifinals on Shellenberger Field at Lynchburg College.
Junior midfielder Will Hamryka (Dawsonville, Ga. / Greater Atlanta Christian School) put the Generals (14-3-1) on the board in the 21st minute on an unassisted goal. Just 1:27 later, Dolberg headed the ball into the back of the net off of a free kick taken by Hamryka to give W&L a 2-0 lead.
Sophomore defender Griffin Scott (Dallas, Texas / Dallas Jesuit) found Dolberg in the box, and he scored his second goal of the contest after he beat Randolph (10-9) sophomore goalkeeper Erick Cortez-Martinez at the 34:54 mark. The Blue and White took a 3-0 lead into intermission.
The Generals took a 4-0 lead in the 53rd minute when senior midfielder Andrew Kim (Blacksburg, Va. / Blacksburg) collected the ball at the top of the box and fired a shot into the lower corner of the net.
Senior defender Christian Irigoyen tallied the WildCats lone goal of the contest at the 64:39 mark off of a corner kick taken by first-year midfielder Barun Tamang to reach the final score.
For the game, W&L held a 17-15 advantage in shots, while Randolph held a 12-4 edge in corner kicks. First-year keeper Alexander Harper (Chevy Chase, Md. / Georgetown Prep) played the full 90 minutes in goal and made three saves for the Generals. Cortez-Martinez played 45 minutes in goal for Randolph and made five stops, while junior keeper Austin Collier played the remaining 45 minutes and totaled four saves.
The Generals return to action on Sunday for the ODAC Championship game when they play at top-seeded Lynchburg at 2:00 pm.
