LEXINGTON, Va. – The third-seeded Washington and Lee men's soccer team posted a 2-0 win over sixth-seeded Bridgewater in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.
The Generals (13-3-1) took an early 1-0 lead when first-year midfielder Harris Salom (Blacksburg, Va. / Blacksburg) fired a shot into the lower corner of the net off of a cross from first-year forward Harry Pinkerton (Suwanee, Ga. / North Gwinnett) just 37 seconds into the contest. W&L took a 1-0 lead into intermission.
The W&L offense continued to put pressure on Bridgewater's (7-10-1) defense in the second half and it paid off in the 74th minute when junior midfielder Dylan Ritch (Mint Hill, N.C. / Independence) dribbled up the right side of the field and crossed the ball into the middle of the box for junior midfielder Kevin Lencioni (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester Adams). Lencioni slipped a low shot past BC junior goalkeeper Quentin Boric for the final 2-0 margin.
The Blue and White outshot the Eagles, 32-4, and held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. Senior keeper Gillen Beck (Blacksburg, Va. / Blacksburg) played the full 90 minutes and made one save for the Generals. Boric made 11 saves for Bridgewater in 90 minutes of action.
W&L returns to action next Saturday when it faces the victor of No. 7 Randolph vs. No. 2 Roanoke in the semifinals of the ODAC Tournament. The contest will be played at the highest remaining seed after today's games.
