LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's soccer team used a trio of first half tallies to produce a 3-0 victory over Emory & Henry on Wednesday afternoon in ODAC action at Watt Field.
Senior midfielder Kevin Molnar (Mendham, N.J. / Delbarton School) started the Generals' (10-3-1, 5-2) scoring early at the 2:10 mark after firing a shot into the back of the net off of a rebounded shot.
W&L took a 2-0 lead in the 24th-minute when first-year midfielder Harris Salom (Blacksburg, Va. / Blacksburg) beat an E&H (5-11-1, 0-6-1) defender just inside the box and drilled a shot into the top corner of the net.
The Blue and White tallied its final goal at the 37:02 mark after first-year midfielder Nick St. Pierre (Roanoke, Va. / Northside) played the ball to senior forward Reeves Duggan (Birmingham, Ala. / Indian Springs School), who fired a shot that hit off the crossbar and dropped down just over the goal line.
The Generals had multiple chances to increase their lead in the second half, but first-year keeper Sam Irvin made key stops for the Wasps to reach the final margin.
For the game, W&L held a 24-6 advantage in shots and a 9-0 edge in corner kicks. Senior keeper Gillen Beck (Blacksburg, Va. / Blacksburg) played the full 90 minutes and made one save. Irvin also played the entire match and made seven stops for the Wasps.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Guilford for a 1:00 pm contest.
