BUENA VISTA, Va. – The ninth-ranked Washington and Lee men's soccer team tallied four goals in the second half in a 7-0 triumph over Southern Virginia on Tuesday night at Knights Stadium.
The Generals (4-0-1) seven tallies were the most goals scored in a game since the 2006 season.
Junior midfielder Kevin Lencioni (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester Adams) netted the opening goal when he beat Southern Virginia (1-5-0) senior goalkeeper Colin Flynn and scored in an open net in the eighth minute.
Junior midfielder James Brady (Glen Head, N.Y. / Chaminade) scored the Blue and White's second goal at 9:45 on an assist from first-year midfielder Harris Salom (Blacksburg, Va. / Blacksburg). In the 41st minute, senior forward Reeves Duggan (Birmingham, Ala. / Indian Springs School) scored on a penalty kick. W&L took a 3-0 lead into the half.
Salom tallied the fourth goal of the game when he scored an unassisted goal at the 57:13 mark. Sophomore defender Griffin Scott (Dallas, Texas / Dallas Jesuit) found the back of the net off of a pass from Lencioni in the 66th minute. First-year forward Kevin Tripp (Williamsburg, Va. / Jamestown) scored W&L's sixth goal at the 78:53 mark off of an assist from junior midfielder Andy Dean (Columbia, Tenn. / Columbia Central) and Brady would score the final goal of the contest at 83:18.
For the game, W&L took 28 shots as opposed to the Knights' six, and held a 13-4 edge in corner kicks.
W&L senior goalkeeper Gillen Beck (Blacksburg, Va. / Blacksburg) and first-year Alexander Harper (Chevy Chase, Md. / Georgetown Prep) split time in goal with Beck making two stops. Flynn played 82 minutes in goal and made eight saves, while first-year Nathan Maloney made one save in eight minutes of action.
The Generals return to action on Saturday, when the host Capital at 12:00 pm.
