LEXINGTON, Va. – First-year midfielder Dylan Ritch (Mint Hill, N.C. / Independence) scored two goals to lead the Washington and Lee men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Hampden-Sydney on Wednesday afternoon at Watt Field.
The Generals now have a 7-2-1 overall record and a 5-0 mark in the ODAC. This is the first time W&L has won its first five conference contests since the 2001 season.
Ritch tallied the game-winning goal in the 25th-minute when he chipped in a loose ball that rebounded off of H-SC (5-6, 1-5) junior keeper Cameron McFarlane (Norwich, Conn. / South Kent).
W&L carried a 1-0 lead into the second half until Ritch struck again at the 62:28 mark when he found the back of the net off of an assist from first-year midfielder Will Hamryka (Dawsonville, Ga. / Greater Atlanta Christian) to reach the final margin of 2-0.
For the game, Washington and Lee out-shot Hampden-Sydney, 15-5, and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Sophomore goalie Gillen Beck (Blacksburg, Va. / Blacksburg) played the entire match for the Generals and finished with one save. McFarlane suffered the loss for the Tigers, recording five saves in 90 minutes of action.
W&L returns to the field on Saturday when it travels to Messiah for a 6:00 pm contest.
