Men's Soccer Picked to Finish Fifth in ODAC Preseason Poll

FOREST, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference has released its 2014 men's soccer preseason coaches' poll and Washington and Lee was picked to finish fifth in the league with 91 points.

Virginia Wesleyan received eight first-place votes with 115 points to lead the poll. Lynchburg followed behind tallying 105 points and Roanoke sits in third with two first-place votes and 98 points. Randolph (93) and Washington and Lee each garnered a first-place vote.
 
The Generals return 21 players from the 2013 season and add seven first-year athletes. Last season, the team finished 10-3-5 overall and 7-2-2 in the ODAC, advancing to the semifinals.

First Team All-ODAC honoree senior forward Zach Colby (Prairie Village, Kan. / Shawnee Mission East) returns to the squad this season, along with fellow 2014 team captains senior midfielder Al Organ (St. Paul, Minn. / DeLaSalle) and junior midfielder Benjamin Bayles  (Fleming Island, Fla. / Fleming Island).  Colby led the team with 13 goals last season. 

First Team All-ODAC honoree sophomore defender Patrick Barry (West Roxbury, Mass. / Roxbury Latin School) and Second Team All-ODAC honoree senior goalkeeper Albert Civitarese (Bridgeville, Pa. / Sewickley Academy) also returns this season for the Blue and White. Civitarese totaled 65 saves with a save percentage of .833 in 2013.

W&L kicks off its season at Sewanee this weekend facing the Tigers on Saturday and Hendrix on Sunday. Both matches are set to begin at 3:30 pm.
