FOREST, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference has released its 2013 men's soccer preseason coaches’ poll and Washington and Lee was tabbed fourth in the league with 94 points.

Roanoke received 10 first-place votes on the way to 119 total points to lead the poll.  Lynchburg sits in second with 101 points, including one first-place vote. Randolph, with 95 tallies, is one point clear of W&L for third, and Virginia Wesleyan garnered the remaining first-place vote and 83 points for fifth. Completing the list are Hampden-Sydney (63), Guilford (59), Bridgewater (57), Eastern Mennonite (52), Randolph-Macon (33), Shenandoah (22) and Emory & Henry (14).

The Generals return 16 players from last year’s team, and they add 13 first-year athletes. In 2012, the team finished the season 11-4-3 overall and 7-2-2 in conference play, advancing to the ODAC Semifinals.

Junior forward Zach Colby (Prairie Village, Kan./ Shawnee Mission East), the lone First Team All-ODAC honoree from a season ago, returns as the squad’s top goal scorer. Colby led the conference in goals (13), points (27) and game-winning goals (5), while appearing in all 18 games with eight starts last season.

Sophomore goalie Albert Civitarese (Bridgeville, Pa. / Sewickley Academy), a Second Team All-ODAC honoree, and junior defenseman Al Organ (St. Paul, Minn. / DeLaSalle), a 2013 captain, return for the Generals’ defensive unit. Last season, Civitarese and Organ led the team to a .69 goals-against average and a conference leading 10 shutouts.

W&L kicks off its season at Denison on Friday at 7:30 pm.
