W&L Men's Soccer Cruises Past EMU, 4-0
LEXINGTON, Va. – Junior midfielder Al Organ (St. Paul, Minn./DeLaSalle) led the Generals to 4-0 victory over the Royals of Eastern Mennonite with a goal and an assist on Tuesday afternoon at Watt Field.
With the win, W&L moved to 5-0-4 overall and 3-0-1 in the ODAC, while EMU fell to 2-8 and 0-4 in conference action.
Organ started off the scoring with a goal at the 25:33 mark off a first-year Ted Hurst (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams) assist to give the Generals a 1-0 lead. In the 34 minute, junior forward Toby D'Ambola (Marietta, Ga./Kennesaw Mountain) collected a pass from senior captain Alex Zelinski (Rochester Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) in the box and found the back of the net for his first goal of the season.
Sophomore midfielder Ben Bayles (Fleming Island, Fla./Fleming Island) gave the Blue and White a 3-0 lead going into halftime with a tally at the 37:39 mark off a Justin TenBrook assist (Millville, N.J./St. Augustine Prep).
At the 53:12 mark in the second half, first-year defender Mason Billings (Greensboro, N.C./Page) scored the last tally of the game off an Organ assist to secure the 4-0 victory.
Junior keeper Albert Civitarese (Bridgeville, Pa./Sewickley Academy) played 45 minutes in goal and made one save, sophomore Kieran McQuilkin (New Canaan, Conn./King & Low) played the entire second half and finished with two saves.
For the game, W&L outshot the Royals 17-7 and held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Generals will be back in action on Saturday for parents weekend when they play host to conference-leading Roanoke for a 2:30 pm contest.
