W&L Men's Soccer Rolls Past Lynchburg, 4-2

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior forward Zach Colby (Prairie Village, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) led the Generals to a 4-2 victory over the Lynchburg Hornets with two goals on Saturday night.

With the win, W&L moves to 4-0-4 (2-0-1 ODAC), while LC falls to 3-4-1 and 1-1 in conference play.

The Generals came out strong, scoring at the 14:19 mark after senior captain Parker Wolfinger (Greer, S.C/Riverside) netted a goal off a first-year Ted Hurst assist (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams). Colby gave the Generals a 2-0 lead after he scored an unassisted tally in the 27th minute.

Just one minute and seven seconds into the second half, Colby increased the Generals' lead to 3-0 after he controlled a pass from first-year Matthew Carl (Edmond, Okla./Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics) and notched his second goal of the game.

The Hornets answered with goals in the 75th and 83rd minute, but that is as close as they would get as Hurst scored a goal of his own at the 89:27 mark as the game ended 4-2 in the Generals favor.

Junior keeper Albert Civitarese (Bridgeville, Pa./Sewickley Academy) played all 90 minutes in goal for the Generals and finished with eight saves. Jonathan Sheffield suffered the loss, finishing the game with two saves.

For the game, the Hornets out shot the Generals, 21-15, but the Blue and White held a 10-2 edge in corner kicks.

W&L will be back in action on October 1st when it plays host to Eastern Mennonite for a 4:30 pm contest.
