W&L Men's Soccer Ties Bridgewater, 1-1, In Overtime
LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's soccer team snapped its two game winning streak by drawing a 1-1 tie to Bridgewater on Sunday afternoon at Bridgewater.
With the tie, the Generals move to 3-0-4 overall and 1-0-1 in the ODAC, while the Eagles are 3-3-2 overall and 0-0-1 in conference play.
The Eagles started off the scoring with a goal at the 12:39 mark off a Ben Lewis tally to give BC the early 1-0 lead over the Generals. The Blue and White answered with a 30-yard shot to the far post by Zach Colby (Prairie Village, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) less than a minute later to knot the score at 1-1.
Despite recording seven shots in the second half, the Generals could not capitalize as the game was sent into overtime. W&L had a chance to put the game away in the 108th minute when Justin TenBrook (Millville, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) took a shot on goal, but the Bridgewater goalie made the save.
Junior goalkeeper Albert Civitarese (Bridgeville, Pa./Sewickley Academy) played all 110 minutes in goal for the Generals, stopping three shots. Kevin Norris protected the net for the Eagles and finished with five saves.
For the game, the Blue and White held a slight 16-14 advantage in shots, while the Eagles had an 8-3 edge in corner kicks.
The men will be back in action on September 28th, traveling to Lynchburg for a 7:00 pm contest.
