GRANVILLE, Ohio – Washington and Lee men's soccer junior midfielder Al Organ (St. Paul, Minn./DeLaSalle) netted his first goal of the season to secure a 1-1 tie with non-conference opponent Case Western Reserve at Piper Stadium. The match went into overtime, but was called with 4:46 left to play in the first overtime period due to inclement weather.
After a scoreless first half, the Spartans (0-0-2) struck first with a goal by sophomore midfielder Slater Jameson at the 51:14 mark. The Generals (0-0-2) answered less than 10 minutes later after Organ collected a pass from junior forward Zach Colby (Prairie Village, Kan./Shawnee Mission East), and sent the ball past the CWRU keeper to even the score and send the match into overtime.
W&L released two shots during the first overtime period, but was unable to find the back of the net, before the match was called.
Junior keeper Albert Civitarese (Bridgeville, Pa./Sewickley Academy) played all 95:14 for the Generals, finishing with seven saves. Ari Lewis also played the entire contest in goal for the Spartans and recorded five saves.
W&L had a 15-14 edge in shots, while CWRU held an 8-6 advantage in corner kicks.
The Generals will be back in action September 4th at Southern Virginia. The match is set to begin at 5:00 pm.
