BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's soccer team struck first but was unable to maintain the lead as it tied Bridgewater, 1-1, on Monday afternoon at Jopson Field.
After a scoreless first half, W&L junior midfielder John Stallé (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) struck quickly to start the second stanza, recording his first goal of the season in the 48th minute to put the Generals (7-4-2, 4-2-2 ODAC) up, 1-0.
W&L maintained its lead until the 76th minute, when BC (6-8-1, 3-3-1 ODAC) junior midfielder Ryan Tavernaris collected a pass from junior defender Daniel Visone to knot the score at 1-1.
Despite outshooting the Eagles 8-3 over both overtime sessions, the Generals couldn't capitalize as the game ended in the 1-1 draw.
For the Game, W&L led BC in both shots, 26-10, and corner kicks, 10-5.
The Generals return to action on Wednesday, traveling to face Lynchburg College at 7:00 pm.
