LEXINGTON, Va. – Sophomore midfielder Justin TenBrook (Millville, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) netted the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute as the Washington and Lee men's soccer team emerged victorious over Guilford College, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.
Senior midfielder Connor Pierce (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) set up the game winner, passing the ball to TenBrook who was waiting at the top of the box. After collecting the pass, TenBrook sent the ball to the right side of Guilford senior keeper Peter Truitt (Washington, D.C./Woodrow Wilson), who attempted a diving save but came up short, putting W&L up 1-0.
W&L (7-4-1, 4-2-1 ODAC)controlled the tempo the rest of the match as it secured its sixth-consecutive victory, the first time the Generals have won six in a row since the 2007 season when they recorded eight-consecutive triumphs.
For the game, W&L led Guilford (5-7-2, 2-5 ODAC) in both shots (12-7) and corner kicks (6-1).
In goal, senior Ben Petitto (Gainesville, Fla./St. Francis) played all 90:00, stopping three shots. Truitt also played the duration for Guilford, making five saves.
The Generals return to action on Monday, traveling to face Bridgewater at 4:00 pm. The game was originally scheduled for Oct. 12 but was rescheduled due to heavy rain in the area.
