W&L Men's Soccer Takes 2-1 Decision Over Emory & Henry
EMORY, Va. – Sophomore forward Dylan Norvell (Richmond, Va./Henrico) tallied the game-winning goal in the 42nd minute as the Washington and Lee men's soccer team won its regular-season finale, 2-1, over Emory & Henry on Wednesday evening.
Junior midfielder Connor Pierce (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) put the Generals (7-6-2, 5-5 ODAC) on the board early, when he found the net in the 14th minute to give W&L a 1-0 advantage. Senior forward James Pymm (Smithtown, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and junior midfielder Jamie Paldino (Kensington, Conn./Kingswood-Oxford) recorded the double assist on the goal.
E&H (1-13-2, 0-9-1 ODAC) responded in the 21st minute when senior defender Corey Hall tallied a goal off an assist from sophomore forward Joshua Trejo to knot the score at 1-1, where it remained going into the half.
Norvell notched his game winner in the 42nd minute off a helper from junior midfielder Huntley Johnson (Gainesville, Fla./St. Francis Catholic) to lead W&L to the 2-1 victory, while helping to secure the No. 6 seed in the upcoming ODAC men's soccer tournament.
Senior keeper Will Dorrance (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) played all 90:00 for W&L, stopping four shots. Wasps netminder Daniel Mills also played the duration, recording four saves.
The Generals will travel to face Virginia Wesleyan in the quarterfinals of the ODAC men's soccer tournament on Saturday. Game time is still to be determined.
