BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Junior midfielder James Pymm
(Smithtown, N.Y./St. Anthony’s) scored on a penalty kick in
the 103rd minute to lead the Washington and Lee men’s soccer
team to a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Bridgewater on Tuesday
afternoon in Bridgewater.
The Eagles (1-16-1, 0-9-1 ODAC) would find the net early when midfielder Shane O’Donnell recorded a goal in the 17th minute off an assist from midfielder Ryan Morgan. Pymm would add his first goal of the match off a helper from senior midfielder Drew Crowley (Weston, Mass./Weston) in the 41st minute, leaving the scoreboard knotted at 1-1 for the remainder of regulation play.
The Generals (5-6-4, 3-5-2 ODAC) secured the double-overtime win in the 103rd minute as Pymm connected on a penalty kick that passed Bridgewater goalie Jack Bottoms for his second goal of the match.
Sophomore goalie Alex Lambert (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Chaminade) played 102:25 in net, allowing one goal while recording three saves. Bottoms also played 102:25 for the Eagles, allowing two goals and notching nine saves.
The Generals will return to action Saturday for the first round of ODAC Tournament play. Opponent and game time are TBD.
