ROANOKE DEFEATS W&L MEN'S LAX, 13-12, IN ODAC SEMIS (5/2)

SALEM, Va. -- Roanoke freshman midfielder Steve Furdock registered a man-up goal off an assist from sophomore midfielder Chaz Carlson with 25 seconds left in the contest to lift the 11th-ranked Maroons over 18th-ranked Washington and Lee, 13-12, in the semifinals of the 2007 ODAC Men's Lacrosse Tournament at Alumni Field on Wednesday evening.

Roanoke (13-4) opened the game with two scores before the Generals responded with their first goal with 3:44 to play in the initial quarter as sophomore attackman Seth Fishman (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Haverford) scored off a feed from freshman attackman Will Keigler (Timonium, Md./Gilman). After a RC goal by senior attackman Jon Mason gave the Maroons a 3-1 lead just 41 seconds into the second period, W&L tallied three of the next four goals to tie the contest (4-4) with 9:29 to play before halftime. Roanoke used a three-goal run, which included two more scores from Mason, to take a 7-4 lead with 6:46 left in the half, but the Generals produced a spurt of their own, notching three goals to close out the half with the score tied at 7-7.

Fishman and Keigler connected again to begin the second half with the Generals leading, 8-7, at the 11:25 mark in the third quarter, but the Maroons took back the lead with two-straight tallies and held a 9-8 advantage with 7:45 to play in the third. The Generals fired back with four-answered goals, including three from sophomore midfielder Harry St. John (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex), to lead RC, 12-9, with 11:45 to play in the fourth quarter. However, the Maroons mounted their comeback just 16 seconds later as an unassisted score from freshman defender Stephen Simmons at 11:29 sparked a four-goal run that included the game-tying score from freshman attacker Pat March with 9:24 left and ended in Furdock's game-winner.

The Generals (9-6) were led by St. John, who posted five goals, and Keigler's two goals and three assists. Fishman and junior attackman Ned Rider (Manakin-Sabot, Va./Collegiate) each added two goals and one assist, while senior goalkeeper Chris Lalli (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) recorded 10 saves in goal.

Junior attackman Zach Thomas paced the RC offense with three goals and one assist, while Mason contributed a trio of scores. Senior attackman Brendan Moore notched two goals and one assist and Carlson registered one goal and two assists. Freshman goalkeeper Jake Dorsey racked up 13 stops between the pipes.

With the loss, Washington and Lee concludes its season with a 9-6 overall record.

W&L MEN'S LAX FALLS TO LYNCHBURG, 12-3 (4/28)

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior attackman Brian McCulloch (Annandale, Va./W.T. Woodson) and junior midfielder Ryan Cranston (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) notched three goals and one assist apiece and junior goalkeeper Garrett Curran (Hull, Mass./Tabor Academy) posted 18 saves as 12th-ranked Lynchburg handed 17th-ranked Washington and Lee a 12-3 loss in ODAC men's lacrosse action on Saturday evening at the W&L Turf Field.

The Hornets (12-3, 3-2) jumped out to a 6-0 lead on two goals by McCulloch and Cranston and two more from sophomore attackman Tyler Tolson (Lutherville, Md./Loyola). The Generals dented the scoreboard with 1:01 remaining before the half on a goal by junior attackman Ned Rider (Manakin-Sabot, Va./Collegiate) off a feed from sophomore midfielder Harry St. John (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex), but Lynchburg opened the third period with four-straight tallies, including a pair from junior attackman Johnny Black (Timonium, Md./St. Paul's), for a commanding 10-1 lead with 58 seconds left in the third quarter.

St. John paced the W&L (9-5, 4-2) offense with one goal and one assist, while senior goalkeeper Chris Lalli (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) recorded 15 saves in goal.

McCulloch and Cranston paced the LC offense, while Tolson chipped in three goals and junior attackman Stephen Weis (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers) added one goal and a game-high three assists.

Washington and Lee will now be the fourth seed for the ODAC Tournament and will travel to top-seeded Roanoke College for a semifinal contest. The game date and time are to be determined.

W&L MEN'S LAX TOPPLES RANDOLPH-MACON, 11-4 (4/21)

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The 19th-ranked Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team erupted for six goals in the second quarter and four more in the fourth quarter en route to an 11-4 win over Randolph-Macon in ODAC action on Saturday afternoon at Wilson Field.

After a scoreless opening period, the Generals found the net just seven seconds into the second quarter as sophomore attackman Seth Fishman (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Haverford) scored off a feed from freshman attackman Will Keigler (Timonium, Md./Gilman). The goal ignited a run of three more scores, including a man-down tally by Keigler at the 9:32 mark. The Yellow Jackets responded with a man-down goal of their own by junior midfielder Keith Baker (Virginia Beach, Va./Bishop Sullivan) at the 6:46 mark to make it a 4-1 game. W&L sandwiched a pair of goals around a lone R-MC tally for a 6-2 lead at the break.

Randolph-Macon (6-7, 1-3) opened the third quarter scoring on a man-up goal by freshman midfielder Billy Rowe (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) off an assist from junior attackman Tyler Watkins (Columbia, Md./Hammond) with 3:42 left in the period, but the Generals got one back as junior attackman Ned Rider (Manakin-Sabot, Va./Collegiate) scored off an assist from sophomore midfielder Harry St. John (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) with four seconds left to make it 7-3 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Yellow Jackets closed to 7-4 as Rowe scored his second goal just 45 seconds into the final period, but a W&L goal by junior midfielder Spotty Robins (Richmond, Va./Woodberry Forest) just 14 seconds later sparked another Generals' run to close out the game

Washington and Lee (9-4, 4-1) was paced by Keigler's two goals and two assists. Sophomore attackman Tim Skeen (Baltimore, Md./Towson) notched one goal and two assists, while Rider and Fishman posted two goals each. Senior Chris Lalli (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) recorded 10 saves in goal and sophomore midfielder Seldon Clarke (Short Hills, N.J./Delbarton) won 15-of-17 faceoffs.

Rowe led the Yellow Jackets with two goals, while senior goalkeeper Brian Vierheller (Forest Hill, Md./John Carroll) posted 20 saves in between the pipes.

W&L MEN'S LAX CRUISES PAST GUILFORD, 12-4 (4/18)

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The 19th-ranked Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team jumped out to an 8-1 halftime lead in cruising to a 12-4 victory over Guilford in ODAC action on Wednesday afternoon at Wilson Field.

The Generals (8-4, 3-1) opened the scoring just 1:46 into the game as sophomore midfielder Harry St. John (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) scored off an assist from sophomore attackman Tim Skeen (Baltimore, Md./Towson). With W&L leading 2-1 late in the first quarter, senior midfielder Lee McLaughlin (Rockbridge Baths, Va./Episcopal) ignited a six-goal run with three-straight unassisted tallies over the first and second periods as the Generals defeated the Quakers for the 19th-consecutive time.

St. John and McLaughlin paced the Generals with three goals each, while sophomore attackman Seth Fishman (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Haverford) added a pair of goals. Skeen, freshman attackmen Will Keigler (Timonium, Md./Gilman) and Max Mancuso (Northport, N.Y./Northport) each posted one goal and one assist. Senior Chris Lalli (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) played the majority of time in goal, recording seven saves. Sophomore Alex Heaton (Atlanta, Ga./Lovett) and freshman Matt Mason (Gladwyne, Pa./St. Mark's) also played between the pipes, combining for one save.

H-SC COMES FROM BEHIND TO DEFEAT W&L MEN'S LAX, 6-5

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney scored five unanswered goals over the second and third quarters to come back from a 4-1 first-quarter deficit and post a 6-5 win over the 17th-ranked Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon in Hampden-Sydney, Va.

The 16th-ranked Tigers (10-2, 2-1) opened the scoring as Ryan Harrington scored off a feed from Andrew O'Shea at 12:16 in the first quarter, but the Generals responded with four goals to close out the initial quarter. H-SC began its comeback in the second quarter when two scores by Harrington at 4:48 and 2:14, respectively, cut the W&L advantage to 4-3 at the break.

Hampden-Sydney continued its rally in the third quarter with the game-tying score from Thomas Jennings at 13:38 and the go-ahead goal from Harrington at 10:40 in the third. Jennings found the back off the net again at the 3:54 mark of the third quarter to give the Tigers a 6-4 lead and a goal by junior attackman Ned Rider (Manakin-Sabot, Va./Collegiate) off an assist from senior midfielder Charlie Clarke (Short Hills, N.J./Delbarton) with 2:44 remaining in the third quarter wasn't enough to spark a complete Generals' comeback.

W&L (7-4, 2-1) was paced by Rider, who had one goal and one assist. Clarke added two helpers, while senior goalkeeper Chris Lalli (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) stopped 14 would-be goals.

Harrington racked up four goals to lead H-SC, while Jennings registered two goals and one assist. Scott Russell played the entire game in goal, notching nine saves.

W&L MEN'S LAX DOWNS VMI IN LEE JACKSON CLASSIC, 8-4 (4/4)

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior goalkeeper Chris Lalli (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) posted a career-high 21 saves in leading Washington and Lee to an 8-4 victory over VMI in the 20th Annual Lee-Jackson Lacrosse Classic on Wednesday afternoon at VMI's Foster Stadium.

Lalli and VMI freshman goalkeeper Sean McCoy were named the winners of the Worrell-Fallon Award as the game MVP's.

Washington and Lee (7-3) opened the scoring just eight seconds into the game as junior attackman Ned Rider (Manakin-Sabot, Va./Collegiate) scored off an assist from sophomore attackman Tim Skeen (Baltimore, Md./Towson). The Keydets (1-8) tied the score just 2:34 later as junior attackman Matt Harrison scored off a feed from senior midfielder Steve Long, but the Generals scored three unanswered goals in the second quarter to assume a 4-1 lead at halftime.

The teams traded goals to begin the third quarter, but W&L pulled away with another three-goal run midway through the penultimate quarter for an 8-2 lead heading into the final period.

VMI mounted a charge during the final 15 minutes, taking 22 shots and scoring a pair of late goals, but Lalli recorded 12 saves in the quarter to preserve the win.

Rider led the W&L offense with two goals and one assist, while senior midfielder Jim Ryan (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) posted two goals. Skeen added a pair of assists.

The Keydets were led by junior attackman Kevin Hill, who tallied two goals and one assist. Long had a pair of assists, while McCoy notched 10 saves in goal.

W&L returns to action on Sat., Apr. 14 when it travels to Hampden-Sydney for a 1:00 pm contest.

W&L MEN'S LACROSSE ESCAPES WITH A 7-6 OT WIN AT VIRGINIA WESLEYAN (3/31)

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Freshman attackman Will Keigler (Timonium, Md./Gilman) scored three goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to lift the Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team to a 7-6 victory over Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.

The Marlins (5-4, 0-3) jumped out to a 5-2 halftime lead on the strength of a pair of goals by Brett Morris and extended their advantage to 6-2 on a Drew Langis goal with 7:06 left in the third period.

The Generals (6-3, 2-0) began their comeback with 59 seconds remaining in the third quarter as sophomore midfielder Harry St. John (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) found the net unassisted. Keigler then tallied his first goal off a feed from senior midfielder Charlie Clarke (Short Hills, N.J./Delbarton) at the 7:39 mark of the fourth quarter and found the net unassisted at the 3:59 mark to slice the Marlins' lead to 6-5. St. John then tied the game with a goal off an assist from Clarke with 17 seconds left in regulation, setting up Keigler's game-winner that came off the opening faceoff of the overtime sesssion.

Keigler's three scores led W&L, while St. John netted two goals. Senior midfielder Charlie Clarke (Short Hills, N.J./Delbarton) added two helpers and senior Chris Lalli (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) stopped 17 shots in goal.

VWC was paced by Morris and Langis, who each notched two scores. Maicin Dunk posted a trio of assists, while Tom Skartsiaris racked up 20 saves.

The Generals return to action on Wednesday as they travel across town to play VMI in the 20th Annual Lee-Jackson Lacrosse at 4:00 pm.

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee senior goalkeeper Chris Lalli (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) posted 14 saves in leading the Generals to a 9-7 victory over fourth-ranked Middlebury in men's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon.

The game began at Wilson Field, but was delayed by nearly two hours due to lightning before resuming on the W&L Turf Field later in the evening. Once play resumed, Middlebury junior attackman Jim Cabrera (Old Greenwich, Conn./Taft) scored the game's first two goals en route to four first-half scores, but the Generals kept pace and the teams entered the halftime break tied at 5-5.

Washington and Lee (5-3) scored the lone goal of the third period at the 13:29 mark on an unassisted tally by senior midfielder Charlie Clarke (Short Hills, N.J./Delbarton), but the Panthers took the lead back by scoring the first two goals of the fourth quarter, including a man-down goal by sophomore attackman Tom Petty (Newburyport, Mass./Phillips Exeter), for a 7-6 advantage. However, the Generals bounced back with three straight goals to post their fourth-straight victory.

Senior midfielder Jim Ryan (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) tied the game at 7-7 with 7:48 left off an assist from sophomore attackman Tim Skeen (Baltimore, Md./Towson) and freshman attackman Will Keigler (Timonium, Md./Gilman) notched the game-winner with man-up tally at the 6:29 mark. W&L MEN'S LACROSSE WINS THRILLER OVER ROANOKE, 14-13 (3/24)

SALEM, Va. -- Washington and Lee sophomore attackman Tim Skeen (Baltimore, Md./Towson) scored unassisted with just 7.4 seconds remaining to lift the Generals to a 14-13 win over 18th-ranked Roanoke in ODAC men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

The Generals (4-3, 1-0) jumped out to a 6-1 lead early in the second quarter on the strength of an illegal stick penalty that wiped out a Maroons' goal and led to W&L's first three goals of the game. Roanoke scored four of the game's next five goals, including a pair by Billy Cameron, to cut the Generals' advantage to 7-5 with 4:39 left before halftime. A goal by each team made the score 8-6 heading into the break.

W&L scored two of the first three goals of the third quarter to break out to a 10-7 lead at the 11:46 mark, but the Maroons responded with a four-goal run, including three goals by Jon Mason, to assume an 11-10 lead with 12:19 left in the contest. The Generals immediately responded, tying the game at 11-11 just 1:18 later on a man-up goal by Skeen off a feed from freshman attackman Will Keigler (Timonium, Md./Gilman). W&L then re-assumed the lead at the 10:00 mark when junior attackman Ned Rider (Manakin-Sabot, Va./Collegiate) scored unassisted. A pair of Roanoke goals by Chaz Carlson sandwiched around a lone W&L tally from sophomore midfielder Harry St. John (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) tied the game at 13-13 with 2:03 left in the game, setting up Skeen's game-winner coming out of a W&L timeout.

Skeen registered a career-high eight points on five goals and three assists. Rider notched three goals and one assist, while Keigler posted a career-high four assists. Senior Chris Lalli (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) played all 60 minutes in goal and made 11 saves.

Mason paced the Maroons (5-4, 0-1) with four goals and one assist. Carlson posted two goals and four assists, while Cameron notched three goals and one assist. Goalie Nick Peck started the game, but allowed two goals in the first 3:04 of the contest. He was relieved by Jake Dorsey, who posted 10 saves in the final 56:56.

W&L MEN'S LACROSSE NOTCHES 10-3 WIN OVER F&M (3/17)

BROOKLANDVILLE, Md. -- Senior midfielder Jim Ryan (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) tallied three goals as the Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team downed Franklin & Marshall, 10-3, on Saturday afternoon at St. Paul's School in Brooklandville, Md.

The Generals (3-3) opened the game with six-straight goals, including two from Ryan and a pair from junior attackman Will Englehart (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney), en route to leading 7-1 at halftime and cruising to the 10-3 final margin.

Ryan's three-goal performance was complimented by junior attackman Ned Rider (Manakin-Sabot, Va./Collegiate), who totaled one score and three assists. Sophomore midfielder Harry St. John (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) registered two goals and one assist, while sophomore attackman Tim Skeen (Baltimore, Md./Towson) added two helpers. Senior goalkeeper Chris Lalli (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) played the entire contest in goal for W&L, making 12 saves to secure the win.

The Diplomats (3-2) were paced by Mark Hild, Brett Leppert and Sean Murphy, who each tallied a goal, and Cyrus Adams, who contributed two assists. F&M goalkeeper Dan Coffman racked up seven stops in between the pipes.

W&L MEN'S LAX CRUISES PAST HOOD, 24-1 (3/12)

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee had 16 different goal-scorers en route to a 24-1 victory over Hood College in men's lacrosse action on Monday afternoon at Wilson Field.

The Generals (2-3) jumped out to a 12-0 halftime lead on the strength of four first-half points (3 g, 1 a) by junior attackman Ned Rider (Manakin-Sabot, Va./Collegiate) and cruised to the 23-goal victory, the team's largest margin of victory since a 24-1 win over Guilford during the 2001 campaign.

Rider, senior attackman Grant Martin (Towson, Md./Calvert Hall) and freshman attackman Max Mancuso (Northport, N.Y./Northport) led W&L with four points each. Martin tallied one goal and three assists, while Mancuso had two goals and two helpers. Freshman attackman Will Keigler (Timonium, Md./Gilman) notched two goals and one assist, while senior midfielder Bose Bratton (Raleigh, N.C./Woodberry Forest), senior defenseman Jesse Ford (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County), junior attackman Will Englehart (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney) and sophomore attackman Seth Fishman (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Haverford) each added two goals. Sophomore Alex Heaton (Atlanta, Ga./Lovett) started and played the first three quarters in goal, making two saves. Freshman Matt Mason (Gladwyne, Pa./St. Mark's (Mass.)) played the final 15 minutes in goal, making one save and allowing the Blazers' lone tally.

W&L MEN'S LAX DEFEATED BY WAC, 10-8 (3/10)

CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- The 10th-ranked Washington College men's lacrosse team used a pair of three-goal spurts over the third and fourth periods to pull away for a 10-8 win over Washington and Lee on Saturday evening at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium.

The Generals (1-3) led 5-4 with 7:53 remaining in the third quarter on the second of two goals by senior midfielder Lee McLaughlin (Rockbridge Baths, Va./Episcopal). The Shoremen responded with their first three-goal run to take a 7-5 lead with 2:51 left in the period. W&L freshman attackman Will Keigler (Timonium, Md./Gilman) stopped the surge when he found the net off an assist from junior attackman Ned Rider (Manakin-Sabot, Va./Collegiate) with seven seconds left in the third quarter, but the Shoremen scored the next three goals, including a pair by Andrew Generazio, for a 10-6 lead with 5:08 remaining in the contest.

W&L fought back with a pair of goals in the final 4:25, including a man-down goal by Rider, but could get no closer than the 10-8 final score.

McLaughlin led the Generals with his two goals, while Rider notched one goal and two assists. Keigler, sophomore attackman Tim Skeen (Baltimore, Md./Towson) and sophomore midfielder Harry St. John (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) each added one goal and one assist. Senior goalkeeper Chris Lalli (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) held the Shoremen at bay for much of the game, recording a season-high 17 saves.

Washington (3-1) was paced by Generazio and Chris Read, who posted two goals and one assist each. Gordon Cohen notched 14 saves in goal.

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The second-ranked Gettysburg men's lacrosse team had 10 different goal-scorers in posting a 14-5 win over Washington and Lee on Saturday afternoon at Wilson Field.

The Bullets (1-0) jumped out to a 5-0 lead before the Generals dented the scoreboard with an unassisted goal by sophomore midfielder Harry St. John (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) with 7:54 remaining in the second quarter. Gettysburg then went on to score the game's next four goals and carried a 9-1 lead into halftime.

W&L (1-2) opened the second-half scoring on an man-up goal by St. John off an assist from sophomore attackman Tim Skeen (Baltimore, Md./Towson), but again the Bullets answered with a pair of goals to go up 11-2 in cruising to their second-straight victory over the Generals.

St. John led W&L with three goals, while Skeen contributed one goal and a pair of assists. Senior goalkeeper Chris Lalli (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) played nearly 58 minutes in goal and posted 15 saves.

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Sophomore attackman Seth Fishman (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Haverford) scored a career-high three goals, including the first two tallies of the game in leading the Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team to a 9-3 victory over York College on Wednesday afternoon at Wilson Field.

The Generals (1-1) jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first 20:47 of the game on a pair of Fishman scores and two goals by senior midfielder Jim Ryan (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy). The Spartans notched their first goal with 31 seconds left in the first half on an unassisted tally by junior attackman Paul Rudell (Lusby, Md./Patuxent), but the Generals made it an 8-1 game at the half as junior defenseman Spotty Robins (Richmond, Va./Woodberry Forest) found rope just seven seconds later.

Fishman scored W&L's lone goal of the second half, while Rudell added another score for the Spartans, who capped the scoring with an extra-man goal by senior attackman Brendan Hopkins (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) off a feed from Pat Van Middelem (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) with one second left in the contest.

Ryan added one assist to go with his two goals, while junior attackman Ned Rider (Manakin-Sabot, Va./Collegiate) and sophomore midfielder Harry St. John (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) notched one goal and one assist each. The Generals (1-0) carried a 5-4 lead into the break on the strength of two goals and one assist by freshman attackman Will Keigler (Timonium, Md./Gilman) and one goal and one assist from sophomore midfielder Harry St. John (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex).
