FOREST, Va. — The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced its Players of the week for the week ending February 24 and Washington and Lee claimed two selections.
Senior Hayden White (Baltimore, Md./Towson) was named the ODAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week, while sophomore midfielder Garrett Paglia (Forest Hill, Md./Gilman) was selected as the Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week.
White helped lead the Generals to a 2-1 week by notching a 3-0 record at No. 1 singles and a 2-1 mark at No. 2 doubles while teaming with sophomore Christopher Hu (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood). Among his three singles wins during the week was a 6-3, 6-2 win over Emory's Eric Halpern, the 23rd-ranked player in Division III.
White is currently ranked 12th-nationally in singles with an 11-5 record. He and Hu are ranked 15th in the Atlantic South Region, with White posting a 5-6 mark in doubles action.
Paglia helped the W&L lacrosse team to a 2-0 week with two road wins over Top 10 teams. In a 7-6 double-overtime win over top-ranked Salisbury on Wednesday, he totaled a career-high four goals and picked up four ground balls. He then notched the game-winning score with 2:04 remaining to defeat 10th-ranked Denison on Sunday.
For the season, Paglia has notched seven goals and collected 11 ground balls.
The W&L men's tennis team is 2-2 overall and ranked 20th in Division III. The Generals next play on Thursday when they take on Roanoke and Randolph. The Roanoke match will be in Salem at 3:00 pm, while the Randolph match will be at home at 4:00 pm.
The men's lacrosse team is 4-0 and ranked ninth in Division III. W&L will return to action on Saturday at 13th-ranked Washington College. Opening faceoff is at 1:00 pm.
