SALEM, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced its Athletes of the Week on Monday afternoon and Washington and Lee had a trio of athletes honored.
First-year Hayden White (Baltimore, Md./Towson) and sophomore Ann Morris (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic) took home the men’s and women’s tennis awards, while senior attackman Will Keigler (Timonium, Md.,/Gilman) was honored for men’s lacrosse.
Keigler tallied 14 points (10 g, 4 a) over three games, including a career-high five goals in a 15-3 win over Birmingham Southern on Tuesday, as the Generals opened the season a perfect 3-0. He also added three goals and one assist in a 10-4 win over Wittenberg. With his 14 points, Keigler has moved into a tie for ninth-place on W&L’s all-time scoring list with 163 career points. The men’s lacrosse team returns to action on Wednesday as it travels to Greensboro for a 3:30 pm game.
White helped lead the Generals (4-1, 4-0) to a 4-0 week as he posted a 3-0 record at No. 1 singles and a 3-0 mark at No. 1 doubles. White and playing partner sophomore Jeremy Becht (Woodstock, Ga./Etowah) dropped just six games in their three doubles matches and White dropped just 10 games in posting three straight-set victories in singles. White is now 13-4 in singles on the season and boasts a doubles record of 6-2. The men’s tennis team resumes play on Saturday as will travel to Salisbury for an 11:00 am match.
Morris helped the Generals (5-3, 4-0) to a 1-2 record at the ITA Indoor Championships. The No. 5 Generals defeated No. 9 Johns Hopkins (9-0) before falling to No. 4 Chicago (5-4) and No. 8 Denison (7-2). She tallied wins at No. 2 singles over JHU (6-2, 6-4) and Chicago (7-5, 6-2) and also notched a pair of wins at No. 1 doubles with sophomore Ann Lukas (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln). The duo defeated JHU, 8-2, Chicago, 8-5, and fell, 9-7, to Denison. On the season, Morris is 4-6 in singles and 8-3 in doubles. The women’s tennis team returns to the court on Saturday when its hosts Sweet Briar at 11:00 am.
