Five Generals Named to All-State Men's Lacrosse Team

ASHLAND, Va -- The Virginia Sports
Information Directors Association (VaSID) announced its 2009
College Division All-State Men's Lacrosse Team and Washington and
Lee had five players recognized, including senior midfielder Harry
St. John (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex), who was named the Player
of the Year.
St. John was joined on the first team by senior defenseman James
Shanahan (Potomac, Md./Georgetown Prep), senior goalkeeper Connor
Locke (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) and junior
attackman Will Keigler (Timonium, Md./Gilman). Additionally, senior
midfielder Seldon Clarke (Short Hills, N.J./Delbarton) was tabbed
to the second team.
The 2009 ODAC Player of the Year, St. John also garnered First Team
All-ODAC and Second Team All-America laurels this spring. He played
in 16 games this year and finished fifth on the team in scoring
with 37 points (28 G, 9 A). St. John ended his career tied for 20th
on the W&L scoring list with 144 points on 104 goals and 40
assists. His 104 goals also rank ninth on the all-time goal
list.
Shanahan earned First Team All-ODAC and Third Team All-America
laurels this year after starting all 20 games and totaling 51
ground balls, 28 caused turnovers and two assists. He also
captained the Generals' defensive unit, which ranked in the Top 25
nationally with a 7.50 goals-against average. A four-year starter,
Shanahan played in 62 career games, totaling one goal, three
assists and 113 ground balls.
Locke was also a First Team All-ODAC and Honorable Mention
All-America pick following the 2009 campaign. He started all 20
games, posting a .548 save percentage and ranking 25th nationally
with a 7.84 goals-against average. In his two seasons at W&L
after transferring from Loyola College, Locke started 35 games and
totaled a .549 save percentage and a 7.99 goals-against
average.
A First Team All-ODAC and Honorable Mention All-America selection
this spring, Keigler started all 20 games on attack and led the
team in scoring with 78 points on 42 goals and 36 assists. His 78
points are tied for the fifth-highest season total in school
history. A three-year starter, Keigler will enter his senior season
tied for 16th all-time at W&L with 149 career points (73 G, 76
A). His 76 career assists also rank 11th in school history.
Clarke was tabbed to the second team after garnering First Team
All-ODAC honors during the 2009 season. He played in all 20 games
and won 61.1 percent (171-280) of his faceoffs, while also tallying
five goals. Clarke finished his career ranked third all-time at
W&L in faceoff wins (489) and fourth in faceoff winning
percentage (.621). He also totaled 13 goals and three assists in 53
career games.
Washington and Lee finished the 2009 season with a 16-4 overall
record and a 4-2 ODAC mark. The Generals tied the school record for
wins in a season and won their first ODAC title since the 2004
season by defeating top-ranked Roanoke in the ODAC title game,
15-14 in overtime. W&L won its first round NCAA Tournament game
over FDU-Florham, 6-5 in overtime, before falling to Gettysburg,
15-10.
