NORMAN, Okla. – The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) released the 2017-18 Preseason Division III Bushnell Golfweek Men's Golf Coaches Poll and Washington and Lee will open the season ranked 15th.
The Generals totaled 195 points and are ranked 15th after finishing 14th overall at the 2017 NCAA Division III Championship. W&L has made the cut at the NCAA Championship each of the last two seasons, placing in a tie for third in 2016 and 14th a year ago.
Texas-Tyler tops the poll with three first-place votes and 379 points. Defending National Champion Wittenberg is second with six first-place votes and 367 points, while Methodist is third with 351 points and one top nod. Guilford is fourth with 347 points and Huntingdon rounds out the Top 5 with five first-place votes and 346 points.
Washington and Lee returns six letterwinners from last season, including a trio of 2016 all-conference honorees in senior Luke Farley (Durham, N.C. / Trinity School) and sophomores Robert Quinilty (Cypress, Texas / Houston Christian) and Brian Peccie (Norfolk, Va. / Norfolk Academy).
Farley earned the ODAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award and was a Third Team All-ODAC selection after posting a 75.55 scoring average across a team-best 20 rounds played. He is a three-time All-ODAC honoree and a 2016 Honorable Mention All-American. He enters his senior campaign with a 75.58 career stroke average.
Quinilty received the ODAC Rookie of the Year Award and added First Team All-ODAC and First Team All-South Region honors as well. He finished his rookie campaign with a 75.89 average over 18 rounds played.
Peccie also earned First Team All-ODAC and First Team All-South Region laurels during his first season with the Blue & White. He won the Callaway Gardens Invitational en route to posting a 75.82 stroke average over 17 rounds played.
W&L opens the 2017-18 season on September 24-25 when it takes part in the NCAA Fall Preview held at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.
