W&L Men's Golf Sits in 6th Place After First Round at Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate

PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The ninth-ranked Washington and Lee men's golf team carded an opening round score of 296 (+8) on Monday and sits in sixth-place out of 18 teams at the Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate held at the Mountain View Course.

Oglethorpe, ranked 21st overall, leads a field that includes 12 of the top 47 teams in Division III with a -3 score of 285.  Seventh-ranked Methodist is second (290) and is followed by LaGrange (291), sixth-ranked Emory (292), third-ranked Huntingdon (295), W&L (296), Berry (298) and 11th-ranked Sewanee (298).

Emory's Matt Organisak and Corrie Kuehn of Rhodes are tied atop the individual leaderboard after both carded a 69 (-3) on Monday.

Leading the way for the Generals was sophomore Sean Puleo (Albany, N.Y. / Albany Academy), who posted a -1 score of 71 and is just two shots off the lead in a tie for fifth-place out of 102 golfers.  Sophomore Brian Peccie (Norfolk, Va. / Norfolk Academy) and senior Luke Farley (Durham, N.C. / Trinity School) both shot a 73 (+1) which is tied for 16th overall.

Sophomore Robert Quinilty (Cypress, Texas / Houston Christian) is tied for 71st with a +7 score of 79 and junior George May (Topsfield, Mass. / Masconomet) is tied for 87th with a +11 score of 83.

Action continues on Tuesday with the final round of action from the Mountain View Course.
