NELLYSFORD, Va. – The 14th-ranked Washington and Lee men's golf team finished in second-place out of 11 teams at the ODAC Championship held at the Wintergreen Resort on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
No. 19 Guilford won the title by carding a +25 score of 294-294-301—889, while the Generals finished with a 301-300-312—913 (+49). No. 24 Hampden-Sydney placed third with a 306-310-312—928 (+64).
The Quakers also had the top two individuals in the championship, as Josh Hill and Kell Graham both tied for first with a score of +2. Hill posted 72-71-75—218 and Graham shot 73-70-75—218. Hill earned individual medalist honors in a one-hole playoff.
W&L junior Luke Farley (Durham, N.C. / Trinity School) finished in third-place out of the 54 golfers in the field with a +7 score of 73-70-80—223. Senior Todd Alan McDonald (Little Rock, Ark. / Little Rock Christian) placed sixth overall with a 77-75-76—228 (+12) and senior Conley Hurst (Little Rock, Ark. / Episcopal) tied for eighth with a 77-80-74—231 (+15).
First-year Robert Quinilty (Cypress, Texas / Houston Christian) tied for 17th with a 77-76-82—235 (+19) and classmate Brian Peccie (Norfolk, Va. / Norfolk Academy) rounded out the Generals in the field with a tie for 27th-place, shooting a three-day total of 74-79-87—240 (+24).
Washington and Lee will now wait to see if it receives an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Championship or secures any individual berths to the championship field. Selections will be announced on May 8 and the championship will be contested on May 16-19 at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
