W&L Men's Golf Competes in the Lynchburg Invitational as a "B" Team

AMHERST, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's golf team participated in the Lynchburg College Invitational as a "B" team at the Poplar Grove Golf Club on Monday.  The Generals finished the first round tied for third out of 11 teams.

The Methodist University "B" team leads the event after the first day with a +2 score of 290.  York College of Pennsylvania is second at 300 (+12) and W&L is tied for third with the host Hornets at 307 (+19).

Roanoke's Andrew Butts is the individual leader after day one, posting a -4 score of 68.  He leads the field by two strokes.

Washington and Lee is led by senior Conley Hurst (Little Rock, Ark. / Episcopal), who is tied for sixth out of 66 golfers with a 73 (+1).  Junior Hayden Combs (Kennett, Mo. / Memphis University School) is tied for eighth with a 74 (+2), and senior Cody Solomon (Peachtree Corners, Ga. / Wesleyan School) shot a 78 (+6) and is tied for 20th.

First-year Sean Puleo (Albany, N.Y. / Albany Academy) also carded a 78 (+6) and is tied for 20th, and classmate Boyd Peete (Henrico, Va. / St. Christopher's) posted an 82 (+10) that is tied for 39th.

Junior Eric Wirth (Morgantown, W.Va. / University) fired an 83 (+11) and is tied for 41st, while senior Spencer Payne (Davenport, Iowa / Pleasant Valley) is tied for 55th with an 89 (+17).

Washington and Lee returns to action on Tuesday with the final round from Poplar Grove.
