JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The 22nd-ranked Washington and Lee men's golf team finished seventh out of 29 teams at the Jekyll Island Invitational, which was completed on Sunday.
Greensboro College finished atop a stellar field of 23 schools ranked in the Top 50 with a +11 score of 294-293-288—875. The 15th-ranked Pride finished four strokes better than No. 10 Oglethorpe, No. 1 Huntingdon and No. 13 Methodist, who all tied for second with a +15 score of 879.
Fifth-ranked Emory was fifth (882) and 11th-ranked LaGrange (883) was sixth, four strokes better than the Generals, who posted a score of 288-298-301—887 (+23).
Oglethorpe's Jacob Arnett was the tournament medalist after totaling a -4 score of 73-68-71—212. Washington and Lee first-year Robert Quinilty (Cypress, Texas / Houston Christian) finished just three strokes behind Arnett with a -1 score of 72-73-70—215 that tied for fifth out of the 150 golfers in the field.
First-year Brian Peccie (Norfolk, Va. / Norfolk Academy) tied for 21st with a 70-76-76—222 (+6), while senior Todd Alan McDonald (Little Rock, Ark. / Little Rock Christian) tied for 48th with a +10 score of 71-75-80—226.
Sophomore Zack Spear (Naperville, Ill. / Wheaton Academy) played as an individual and registered a 74-86-81—241 (+25) that tied for 119th.
Washington and Lee returns to action on March 27-28 when a group of players will compete as individuals at the Lynchburg College Invitational held at the Poplar Grove Golf Club.
