HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The 11th-ranked Washington and Lee men's golf team shot the second-lowest round of the day on the more difficult El Campeon course, moving into a tie for fourth-place out of 18 teams at the Division III Fall Preview held at the Mission Inn Resort.
The Generals were 13th overall after the first day, but shot a +9 score of 297 on Monday to move up nine spots. Fourth-ranked Huntingdon College holds an 18-stroke lead over the field with a two-day score of 282-293—575 (-1).
Huntingdon's Will Thrash and Addison Lambeth are the individual leaders, as both are tied at 142 (-2).
W&L's top individual is senior Conley Hurst (Little Rock, Ark. / Episcopal), who is tied for 11th out of 92 golfers with a +3 score of 75-72—147. First-year Robert Quinilty (Cypress, Texas / Houston Christian) is tied for 25th with a 72-78—150 (+6) and classmate Brian Peccie (Norfolk, Va. / Norfolk Academy) is tied for 27th with a +7 score of 75-76—151.
Junior Hayden Combs (Kennett, Mo. / Memphis University School) bounced back after carding an 81 on day one to shoot even-par 72 on Monday for a +9 score of 153 that is tied for 42nd overall. Junior Luke Farley (Durham, N.C. / Trinity School) also improved on day two, progressing from an 80 on day one to a 77 on day two. His 157 (+13) is tied for 65th overall.
Action will continue on Tuesday from the Mission Inn Resort with the final round.
