HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The 11th-ranked Washington and Lee men's golf team opened its 2016-17 season with a 302 (+14) during the first day of competition at the NCAA Division III Fall Preview held at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort on Sunday.
Fifth-ranked Wittenberg carded a -7 score of 281 and leads the field by one stroke over fourth-ranked Huntingdon, which posted a 282 (-6). The Generals are 13th out of the 18 teams, but are only four strokes out of seventh place.
Huntingdon's Will Thrash and Wittenberg's Isaac Hartley are tied atop the individual leaderboard, as both shot 67 (-5).
The top General thus far is first-year Robert Quinilty (Cypress, Texas / Houston Christian), who is tied for 14th out of 92 competitors with an even-par score of 72. Senior Conley Hurst (Little Rock, Ark. / Episcopal) and first-year Brian Peccie (Norfolk, Va. / Norfolk Academy) are both tied for 35th with a 75 (+3), while juniors Luke Farley (Durham, N.C. / Trinity School) and Hayden Combs (Kennett, Mo. / Memphis University School) carded 80 and 81, respectively. Farley is tied for 76th and Combs is tied for 85th.
