JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The 29th-ranked Washington and Lee men's golf team finished 11th out of 30 teams at the Jekyll Island Collegiate held at the Jekyll Island Golf Club over the weekend.
LaGrange, ranked 19th in Division III, won the team portion of the event, shooting a -4 score of 284 on Sunday to finish with a 286-289-284—859 (-5). Second-ranked Methodist and 12th-ranked Rhodes tied for second with a three-day score of 863 (-1).
W&L shot 291-287-301—879 (+15), finishing ahead of 10 teams ranked in the Division III Top 40.
Joey Mayo of Rhodes was the individual medalist, compiling a three-day score of 67-71-67—205 (-11) to finish one stroke ahead of Logan Lanier of LaGrange.
Sophomore Hayden Combs (Kennett, Mo. / Memphis University School) led the way for the Generals, carding a 70-72-71—213 (-3) that left him tied for fifth overall out of 150 golfers.
Junior Todd Alan McDonald (Little Rock, Ark. / Little Rock Christian) tied for 88th with a 76-70-81—227 (+11) and junior Conley Hurst (Little Rock, Ark. / Episcopal) notched a 76-75-81—232 (+16) that tied for 114th.
Washington and Lee returns to action on March 28-29 when it takes part in the Huntingdon Spring Invitational at the Wynlakes Golf Club in Montgomery, Ala.
