PORTSMOUTH, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's golf team finished play at the Virginia Wesleyan Marlin Invitational held at the Elizabeth Manor Golf Club on Tuesday.
A group of W&L players took part in the event as individuals, while the host Marlins took the team championship with a +19 score of 288-286-285—859. North Carolina Wesleyan's Grady Anderson was the individual medalist, carding an even-par score of 71-69-70—210.
Sophomore Eric Wirth (Morgantown, W.Va. / University) led the W&L contingent at the event, finishing tied for eighth out of 49 individuals with a 73-72-75—220 (+10).
First-year Zack Spear (Naperville, Ill. / Wheaton Academy) placed 24th overall with a 78-75-79—232 (+22) and junior Cody Solomon (Peachtree Corners, Ga. / Wesleyan School) finished 26th with a 77-78-79—232 (+24).
Senior Teddy Corcoran (Rochester, N.Y. / Brighton) and junior Spencer Payne (Davenport, Iowa / Pleasant Valley) round out the Generals in the field. Corcoran shot an 85-77-83—245 (+35) to tie for 36th and Payne carded an 86-84-86—256 (+46) to place 43rd overall.
Washington and Lee will return to action on Friday when it takes part in the three-day Jekyll Island Invitational held at the Pine Lakes Golf Club.
