PORTSMOUTH, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's golf team was in action on Monday as a group of individuals are participating in the Virginia Wesleyan Marlin Invitational held at the Elizabeth Manor Golf Club.
The host Marlins lead the team portion of the event with a +14 score of 288-286--574. North Carolina Wesleyan's Grady Anderson is the individual leader after carding an even-par score of 71-69--140 on Monday.
Leading the way for the five individuals playing for the Generals is sophomore Eric Wirth (Morgantown, W.Va. / University), who is tied for seventh out of 49 players with a 73-72--145 (+5). First-year Zack Spear (Naperville, Ill. / Wheaton Academy) is tied for 18th with a 78-75--153 (+13) and junior Cody Solomon (Peachtree Corners, Ga. / Wesleyan School) is tied for 22nd with a 77-78--155 (+15).
Senior Teddy Corcoran (Rochester, N.Y. / Brighton) and junior Spencer Payne (Davenport, Iowa / Pleasant Valley) round out the Generals in the field. Corcoran shot an 85-77--162 and is tied for 34th, while Payne carded an 86-84--170 that is tied for 42nd overall.
Action continues on Tuesday with the final round from Elizabeth Manor.
