ROBINSONVILLE, Miss. – The Washington and Lee men's golf team opened its 2015-16 season with a +12 score of 300 and is tied for fourth out of 17 teams after round one of the Rhodes College Fall Classic held at Tunica National in Robinsonville, Miss., on Sunday.
Eleventh-ranked Berry and 18th-ranked Southwestern lead the stellar field after each posted an even-par score of 288. 25th-ranked Huntingdon is third at 298 (+10) and is followed by 22nd-ranked W&L in fourth and Webster (+13) in fifth.
Berry's Ryan Elmore leads all individuals following Sunday's action after carding a two-under par 70.
Sophomore Hayden Combs (Kennett, Mo. / Memphis University School) is the top General thus far after shooting a +1 score of 73. He is tied for eighth out of the 93 golfers at the event. Combs' score included a hole in one on the 156-yard par 3 13th-hole.
Junior Cody Solomon (Peachtree Corners, Ga. / Wesleyan School) and sophomore Eric Wirth (Morgantown, W.Va. / University) also competed for the Generals. Solomon is tied for 50th with a 78 and Wirth is tied for 65th with an 81.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Monday with the second and final round from the Tunica Resort.
