DATAW ISLAND, S.C. -- Washington and Lee shot a two-round score of 316-311—627 on Monday to rank eighth of 14 teams after the first day of competition at the Taylor Made/Adidas Intercollegiate hosted by Ohio Wesleyan at the Cotton Dike Course.
Guilford leads the team portion of the event with a score of 294-301—595. Hampden-Sydney is second with a 307-301—608 and Concordia (300-315—615) and the Cumberlands (311-304—615) are tied for third.
First-year Cody Solomon (Peachtree Corners, Ga. / Wesleyan School) shot a 76-77—153 to lead the way for the Generals. He is in 16th-place out of 91 golfers, 10 strokes behind Hampden-Sydney's Brian Burt, who leads the field with a 74-69—143 (-1).
First-year Todd Alan McDonald (Little Rock, Ark. / Little Rock Christian) sits in a tie for 18th-place with a score of 78-77—155, while junior Patrick Clossin (Ooltewah, Tenn. / McCallie School) is tied for 33rd with an 84-75—159.
First-year Conley Hurst (Little Rock, Ark. / Episcopal) posted a 78-82—160 and is tied for 36th and senior Mark Sowinski (Greensboro, N.C. / Bishop McGuinness) shot 88-86—174, good for 75th. Junior Joey Manzinger (Baden, Pa. / Sewickley Academy) rounded out the field for W&L, shooting a 95-95—190 to rank 90th overall.
