CAPE CHARLES, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's golf team shot an opening round score of 315 and ranks fourth out of eight teams at the ODAC Championship held at the Bay Creek Resort on Monday.
Guilford leads the team portion of the event with a 296 and is followed by Roanoke (310), Bridgewater (313), W&L (315), Lynchburg (316), Randolph-Macon (318), Hampden-Sydney (319) and Virginia Wesleyan (354).
Quaker first-year Nick Shedd leads the individual portion of the event after carding an even-par score of 72. Shedd's classmate, Drew Thompson, and Bridgewater senior John Phillips are tied for second, one stroke back.
The leading General after the first day of competition is senior Wilson Anthony (Fordyce, Ark./Episcopal), who is tied for sixth overall with a 75. First-year Patrick Clossin (Ooltewah, Tenn./McCallie School) shot a 79 to tie for 18th-place, while sophomore Mark Sowinski (Greensboro, N.C./Bishop McGuinness) carded an 80 to tie for 20th-place.
Sophomore Jack Cottrill (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) and junior Will Hatfield (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) also competed for the Generals on Monday. Cottrill carded an 81 and Hatfield posted a score of 86.
Action continues on Tuesday with the final round of competition from Bay Creek. The first pairings tee off at 8:05 am.
