GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Washington and Lee golf team finished 12th out of 15 teams at the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial hosted at the Cardinal Golf & Country Club on Monday and Tuesday by Guilford College.
The host Quakers won the event with a two-day score of 294-300—594, while Greensboro and Methodist both tied for second with identical scores of 298-298—596. The Generals followed their opening round 329 with a 325 to finish with a two-day total of 654.
Individually, Guilford's Noah Ratner and Drew Thompson finished first and second, respectively. Ratner shot a 65-76—141, while Thompson carded a 70-72—142.
Senior Wilson Anthony (Fordyce, Ark./Episcopal) paced the W&L golfers in the event with a 42nd-place tie (80-80—160). First-year Patrick Clossin (Ooltewah, Tenn./McCallie School) tied for 49th with an 83-79—162, while sophomore Jack Cottrill (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) recovered from an opening day 88 to shoot 78 and finish with a score of 166 to tie for 67th.
Sophomores Mark Sowinski (Greensboro, N.C./Bishop McGuinness) and Jake Struebing (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst Central) rounded out the Generals in the field. Sowinski shot 83-88—171 to finish in a tie for 76th and Struebing tied for 80th with an 83-90—173.
Washington and Lee has now finished with the fall portion of its schedule and will return to action this spring.
