W&L Golf Opens Fall Season at Tom Kinder Invitational

HARRISONBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee golf team opened its fall season on Sunday afternoon as it took part in day one of the Tom Kinder Invitational, hosted by Bridgewater College at the Lakeview Golf Club.

The Generals currently reside in second place as they shot an opening round of 294 (+6). Host Bridgewater College leads the invitational after an opening round of 292 (+4), followed by W&L, Washington & Jefferson (298), Ferrum (301) and Lynchburg (303) in the top five.

W&L sophomore Jack Cottrill (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) currently resides in a three-way tie for first place with a first round score of 70 (-2). Sophomore Mark Sowinski (Greensboro, N.C./Bishop McGuinness) was second on the team and eighth overall with a score of 72, while senior Wilson Anthony (Fordyce, Ark./Episcopal) followed in a three-way tie for ninth place, shooting an opening round of 73.

Rounding out the scoring for W&L was sophomore Jake Struebing (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst Central), finishing in a seven-way tie for 42nd with a score of 79.

The Generals return to action tomorrow for the final day of the Tom Kinder Invitational.
